The annual McWhorter Memorial Sacred Harp Singing was held at Mars Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Cleburne County, Alabama on Saturday before the third Sunday in October.

The class was called to order by Mary Florence Smith who welcomed everyone, led song on page 317, and offered the morning prayer. Teenie Moody led songs on pages 222 and 148 (for Mozelle Sheppard); and Lonnie Rogers led songs on pages 225t and 143.

The class was organized for the day with the following officers elected or appointed: Chairperson—Mary Florence Smith; Vice Chairperson—Teenie Moody; Arranging Committee/Secretary—Hester Edwards.

RECESS

Teenie Moody brought the class back to order leading song on page 182. Lonnie Rogers gave a special memorial for Cecil Edwards and Walter Hamrick, long time supporters of Sacred Harp. Both men passed away this year, and will be greatly missed in this church, the community, and throughout the singing community. They both supported and loved Sacred Harp, and went to singings far and near as long as they were physically able to do so. Lonnie Rogers led song on page 348b in their memory.

Mary Florence Smith and granddaughter Hannah Smith led song on page 294.

LUNCH

Mary Florence Smith brought the afternoon session to order leading song on page 77t.
