The 1st annual Charlotte Sacred Harp Singing was held at the Archdale Church of Christ, Charlotte, North Carolina, on Saturday before the second Sunday in February.
Elder Russ McCollough began the day by offering prayer. Katherine Sullivan and Walter Hartley called the class to order, and introduced Hugh McGraw, singing school master. Mr. McGraw instructed the class in the rudiments of Sacred Harp music, then led 49t, 49b, 64, and 155. He called others to stand in the square to lead songs, and concluded the singing school with singing.
RECESS
The following officers were elected or appointed to serve: Chairman—Katherine Sullivan; Vice Chairman—Walter Hartley; Secretary/Arranging Committee—Danny Arms; Treasurer—Nick Bowen.
Walter Hartley brought the class to order by leading 299. Walter Hartley brought the afternoon session to order by leading 236.
Katherine Sullivan conducted the memorial lesson. She spoke and read the following names of the deceased: Charles Young, Michael Pollack, and Jack Thompson. She then read the following names of the sick and shut-ins: Faith Haynes, Charles Haynes, Lolita Cotaco, Diana Nelson, Ruby Graham, Lillian Graham, Lillian B. Graham, Charles Haymaker, Venson Arms, Carol (NLN), and Vera (NLN). Walter Hartley led 347, and the memorial lesson was closed.
