The annual DeLong Memorial Sacred Harp singing was opened with Chairman Richard DeLong leading song on page 60. Junie Wooten offered the morning prayer.

A business session was conducted with the following officers elected or appointed to serve: Chairman—Richard DeLong; Vice Chairman—Kenneth DeLong; Secretary/Treasurer—Helen Bryson. Further, a motion was made and carried that today’s singing be dedicated to Buck and Ollie Kinnard, long time supporters of the DeLong Memorial singing.

Kenneth DeLong put forth the following resolution for consideration. Be it resolved that:

  • In appreciation of faithfulness and support in times past;
  • And, because of the great love bestowed on the DeLong and Roberts families by our Heavenly Father;
  • And, further since this same love has been long manifested between these two families;

That this singing, on the fourth Sunday in June at Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church, be forever after known and published as the “DeLong-Roberts Memorial Singing.”

Voting will occur later in the day. Kenneth DeLong led song on page 318 (by special request).

RECESS

Richard DeLong conducted the memorial lesson. The deceased remembered were: Polly Moore—Alabama; Ike Stanford—Georgia; Elizabeth Wilson—New York.

Jesse Roberts asked that we also remember the DeLong men and women who have so graciously shared their love with everyone over the years, and led songs on pages 101 (t? b?) and 460.

This year the sick and shut-ins we remember are: Barbara DePoy, Lyndi Nix, Mozelle Sheppard, Jo Thornton, Buck Kinnard, Lois Stanford, and Frances McDaniel—Georgia; Tom Mitchell—Minnesota; John Etheridge—Florida.

Richard DeLong remarked that each of us are special and we need to appreciate each other today and tell each other just how much we mean to each other, and then led song on page 61. The memorial was closed.

The business session continued with the approval of the resolution put forth by Kenneth DeLong. Hereafter, this singing will be known as the “DeLong-Roberts Memorial Singing,” held at Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church on the fourth Sunday in June.

Announcements were made. Richard DeLong led song on page 146 as the closing song. Elder Jesse Roberts offered the closing prayer, and the class was dismissed.
