The memorial lesson was conducted by Ateven Snderson telling the story of Homer Plessy and the events leading up to the Plessy v Ferguson supreme court ruling that began on the block they were singing on that day. They read the following list of the deceased: Lydia Lewallen—North Carolina and Ted Mercer—Chicago. They led 400.
