Jordan’s Chapel Methodist Church

The annual Sacred Harp singing at Jordan’s Chapel Methodist Church was held on the fourth Sunday in October. The class was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Lonnie Rogers leading song on page 75. B.J. Harris offered the morning prayer. B.J. Harris led songs on pages 503 and 303, and Sherry Louvorn led songs on pages 100 and 373.

A business session was held, and the class voted to retain the following officers: Chairman—Lonnie Rogers; Vice Chairman—B.J. Harris; Arranging Committee—Hester Edwards; Memorial Committee—Henry Johnson and Sherry Louvorn; Secretary—Mary Lambert Smith.

The pastor of the church, Julian Murphy, welcomed everyone and offered prayer.

Lonnie Rogers brought the afternoon session to order and led song on page 389. Leaders: Ruth Daniel 46, 378t; Tabetha Murphy and Evelyn Harris 101t, 75.

Henry Johnson and Sherry Louvorn conducted the memorial lesson. Henry Johnson spoke about the day and hour of our lives being unknown to us, how short life is, and how we should all be prepared to die. He gave illustrations of recent tragedies of the “sniper” attacks, 9-11 events, and other days of sorrow. He read the list of the deceased, and led song on page 341 in their memory: Kenneth DeLong, Wilford Denney, George Rogers, Ford Reaves, and Susie Gosdin.

Sherry Louvorn led song on page 143 for all the sick and shut-ins, and especially remembered her mother, Vivian Rogers. B.J. Harris closed the memorial with prayer.
