Harper Memorial Singing and Reunion

The annual Harper Memorial Sacred Harp Singing and Reunion was held at Old Flatwoods Primitive Baptist Church on the second Sunday in October. Jimmie Gilmore called the class to order at 10:00 a.m. and extended greetings to everyone. Jimmie Gilmore and Ashley Keeton led song on page 36b. Garry Baker offered the morning prayer. Jimmie Gilmore and Ashley Keeton led songs on pages 39b and 32t.

Arthur Gilmore called the class back together leading song on page 378t. Leaders: L.H. Gilmore and Estelle Gilmore 421, 318, 73t; Cora Sweatt 81t, 445b, 159; Pamela Gilmore Keeton 192 (in memory of her grandmother, Ethel McGough, who passed away on January 20, 2002), 283 (in honor of her grandfather, Garnsey McGough, who was ill); Travis Keeton 290 (for A.C. McGough), 235; Faye Donaldson 40, 78.

Jimmie Gilmore, daughter of Garnsey and Ethel McGough, conducted the memorial lesson, and read scripture from Proverbs 31 (t? b?):10, 28 (t? b?). The last song that Ethel McGough sang before she passed away was 192, and the last song that Jimmie Gilmore sang to her dying mother was 153. Jimmie Gilmore, Arthur Gilmore, Pam Keeton, Joshua Keeton, and Ashley Keeton led songs on pages 45t and 153 for the deceased Harper family members and singing friends. The memorial was concluded with prayer.

Dwight Ingle offered the blessing for the noon meal.

LUNCH

The class was called to order by Jimmie Gilmore and Dwight Ingle who led the class in singing “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” in honor of our country and in remembrance of September 11, 2001.
