The eighty-first session of the South Georgia Sacred Harp Singing Convention was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Chairman Timothy Meeks leading songs on pages 59 and 383. Chaplain Jon Robinson offered the opening prayer.
The following committees were appointed by Chairman Timothy Meeks: Arranging Committee—Mary Brownlee; Nominating committee—Wesley Haley and Robert Meeks; Memorial Committee—Rita Haley and Mary Brownlee.

The business session was held with the following officers duly elected to serve for the coming year: President—John Hollingsworth; Vice President—David Grant; Secretary/Treasurer—Rita Haley; Assistant Secretary/Treasurer—Joyce Harrison; Chaplain—Jon Robinson. The new officers’ terms begin at the end of this session.
The singings for 2001 were reviewed. The Warner Robins, Georgia singing held on the first Sunday in July was cancelled.
LUNCH
Timothy Meeks opened the afternoon session with songs on pages 235 and 236. RECESS
Timothy Meeks brought the class to order leading song on page 358.
The memorial lesson was held. The entire convention was dedicated to the memory of Mildred Johnson Dumas of Georgia who was Secretary/Treasurer of the South Georgia Convention for many years. Mildred Dumas and her husband, Harry Dumas, were faithful supporters of Sacred Harp. The silk flower arrangement in Lebanon Church was placed as a symbol of the high esteem the South Georgia Convention holds for her. Gene Shelly of Georgia was also remembered. Wesley Haley led song on page 120 for the deceased.
Mary Brownlee came forward to present the following shut-ins: Doris Haley, Otis Hester, Polly Hester, Gladys McGraw, and Sara Akin; and led song on page 47b in honor of those mentioned. The memorial lesson was concluded.
