Minutes of Sacred Harp Singings

The fourth annual Marilou and Don Jolly Memorial Singing was held on Saturday before the fourth Sunday in July, in the Grand Room of the Porter House at Old Poway Park. The session was called to order by Janice Hecksel leading song on page 276. The morning prayer was offered by Midge Harder. Jon Giles led song on page 37b, and Jerry Schreiber led song on page 35.

A motion was made and seconded to go into a business meeting. The following officers were elected or appointed: Chairman—Janice Hecksel; Vice Chairman—Carroll Lunsford; Secretary—Jerry Schreiber; Chaplain—Midge Harder; Arranging Committee—Carla Smith; Resolutions Committee—Betty Herman and Anitra Gendreau.

The Resolutions Committee presented the following report:

First, we thank the San Diego singers for hosting this singing and for inviting all of us to join them in this wonderful memorial to Marilou and Don Jolly. Our thanks, also, to the City of Poway and to Old Poway Park for allowing us to use these facilities.

We give our thanks and appreciation to the people that cooked and brought food for our delicious noon meal.

We thank Janice Hecksel for her work as today’s chairman, Carla Smith for doing the arranging, Jerry Schreiber for serving as secretary and everyone who worked to make the singing such a success.

And we thank all the singers who came from near and far to sing today. Finally, we resolve to come together again here in Old Poway Park in January 2001 for the All-California Sacred Harp Convention.

Janice Hecksel led song on page 46 to conclude the session, and all who wished took the parting hand. The class was dismissed with prayer by Midge Harder.
