Harper Memorial Singing and Reunion

The annual Harper Memorial Sacred Harp Singing and Reunion was held at Old Flatwoods Primitive Baptist Church on the second Sunday in October. The class was greeted and called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Jimmie M. Gilmore leading song on 36b. The morning prayer devotional was led by Harrison Creel.
Jimmie Gilmore turned the class over to her granddaughter, Ashley Keeton, and to her grandson, Joshua Keeton.
Officers for the singing are: Chairperson—Ashley Keeton; Co-Chairperson—Jimmie M. Gilmore; Vice Chairperson—Joshua Keeton; Co-Vice Chairperson—Arthur R. Gilmore; Arranging Committee/Secretary—Jimmie M. Gilmore.

The memorial lesson for all the deceased Harper family and singing friends and for the sick and shut-ins was led by Jimmie Gilmore, Joshua Keeton, and Ashley Keeton who led song on page 45t. The blessing for the noon meal was offered by Marlin Beasley.
LUNCH
After a wonderful lunch and fellowship of which the Lord so graciously blessed us, the class was called to order by Ashley Keeton leading song on page 37b. Jimmie Gilmore, Charles Kitchens, and Furn Kitchens led the class in the singing of a patriotic song, “My Country ‘Tis Of Thee,” due to our nation being in war which terrorists have brought to and on our country. Jimmie Gilmore, Joshua Keeton, Ashley Keeton, and Glenn Keeton led the class in singing “America The Beautiful,” “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” and “The Star Spangled Banner.” The singing of these songs brought a standing ovation from the class in honor of our Lord, the wonderful nation in which we live, our great flag, glory, and our freedom.
Jimmie Gilmore thanked the class for participating in this special event of singing these beautiful songs in salute to our Lord, country, leaders of our nation, and all our service people who are defending our nation and each other.

Co-Chairperson Jimmie Gilmore and Co-Vice Chairperson Arthur Roland Gilmore extended an invitation for everyone to come back a year from today, thanked everyone for their attendance, and then led 47 (t? b?) as the closing song. Charles Kitchens led the closing prayer, and the class was dismissed.
