Cathy Bonk called the 18th annual Emory Sacred Harp singing to order leading 63. John Plunkett offered the opening prayer.

Karlsberg introduced a display of historical songbooks from the collection of Richard DeLong, recently given to Pitts Theology Library by DeLong’s family.

RECESS

Cathy Bonk brought the class back to order leading 171. During a business session, the class elected the following officers: Chairman—Bill DuPre; Vice Chairwoman—Debora Grosse; Secretary—Jerusha Wheeler. Karlsberg and Emory students from the Performing Arts and Devotion class 40.

Malinda Snow conducted the memorial lesson, in which she spoke about our kinship as singers and how the songs in our tunebook remind us of our mortality. Malinda read aloud the following list of names of the deceased: Philip Denney, Alice Sampson—Georgia; Hubert Nall, Richard Mauldin, Tommie Spurlock—Alabama; Dan Brittain—Arkansas; Dan Burk, Maury Burkes—California; Eva Striebeck—Germany. Malinda also read the name of Scott Swanton, who was sick. Malinda Snow led 176b in honor of the deceased and sick, and then closed the memorial lesson with prayer.
