Antioch Baptist Church Memorial Singing

South of Tallapoosa, Georgia, On Old Highway 100

The 17th annual session of the memorial singing at Antioch Baptist Church, south of Tallapoosa, Georgia, was held on Friday night before the second Sunday in April. Cecil Roberts called the class to order leading 105. Johnny Wright offered the opening prayer.

Leaders: Cecil Roberts 34b; Johnny Wright 335, 145t; Donna Bell 146, 101t; Karen Rollins 100, 32t.

A business session was held with the following officers elected or appointed: Chairman—Johnny Wright; Vice Chairman—Cecil Roberts; Secretary—Donna Bell; Arranging Committee—Jan House.

A motion was made to alternate this singing between Antioch Baptist Church and Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church in order to honor the memory of the original birthday singing honorees, Mildred Johnson and Elder Homer Benefield. Mrs. Johnson was a member at Antioch Baptist Church and Elder Benefield was the pastor and a member at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church. It was decided that on odd numbered years, the singing will be held at Antioch, and on even numbered years, the singing will convene at Shiloh. Next year’s singing will be held at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church. The motion carried and the business session was closed.

Johnny Wright called the class back to order leading 358 (in memory of Katherine Benefield). Announcements were made. Johnny Wright and Diane Clayton led 268, and then 46 as the closing song. Cecil Roberts dismissed the class with prayer.
