The Bill Green Memorial Baldwin County Sacred Harp Convention was held at Galilee Primitive Baptist Church on the fourth weekend in January. The class was called to order by Mary Amelia Taylor leading 293b. She gave a warm welcome to all in attendance and led 63 in memory of deceased singers who were faithful for many years to attend the singing. The opening prayer was offered by Ken Kelley.

The memorial committee was recognized to present the memorial lesson. Stanley Smith read the names of the sick and shut-ins as follows: Wayne Jones, Tim Jones, Nate Green, Agnes Farris, and Mazal Horesh. Smith spoke of the community that binds singers together, and the generations of singers who sustained this singing and others for decades.
Smith also read the names of the deceased which included Tommie Spurlock and Billy Kelley—Alabama. Ken Kelley led 572 in memory of his father, Billy Kelley. Ken described his father’s final days and the comfort that Sacred Harp songs gave him and his family. Stanley Smith led 183 in memory of Tommie and Margaret Spurlock, and closed the memorial lesson with prayer.
