The 157th session of the Hopewell singing met on the third Sunday in June. Oscar McGuire led 59 to bring the class to order. Robert Chambless offered the opening prayer. Oscar McGuire then led 34b followed by Denney Rogers who led 36b. Denney also gave the financial report. Karen Rollins led 171, and a business session was held. The following officers were re-elected to their positions: Chairman—Oscar McGuire; Vice Chairman—Denney Rogers; Secretary—Karen Rollins. Judy Chambless was appointed to arrange.

RECESS

Oscar McGuire led 145t to bring the class to order. Leaders: Lela Crowder 39b, 138b; Cecil Roberts 89, 163b; Shawn Taylor 312b, 313b. Karen Rollins conducted the memorial lesson. She mentioned singing in fancy cathedrals and in old country churches and the feelings evoked of close ties no matter what the surroundings. She encouraged singers to reach out to the following singers on the sick and shut-ins list: Beverly Rollins Thompson, Judy Henry, Karleen Williams, Emmett Harrod, William Futral, Virginia Futral, Henry Guthery, Margaret Thacker, Ed Thacker, and Betty Shepherd.

The list of deceased singers was long. Names on the list included Richard Mauldin, Ozella Blackmon, Earl Ballinger, Tommie Spurlock, Jerry Kitchens, Pearl Guier, Gaston White, Chris Rogers—Alabama; Eva Striebeck—Germany; Melanie Hauff—Illinois; Dan Brittain—Arkansas; Sylvia Tyree, Newman Denney, Merle Denney, Kay Denney Hubbard, Wilma Brandenburg, Gary Brandenburg, David Griffin, Jimmy Pollard, Ted Huddleston, and Jerry Shadinger—Georgia. Assisted by her grandchildren, Ava and Elijah Harris, Karen led 345t for all those on the memorial list, and then offered prayer to close the lesson.
