The Fall Session of the Southwest Texas Sacred Harp Singing Convention was called to order by Bill Bailey leading 56. After a welcome, prayer was offered by Gaylon Powell.

Jeb Owen and Reed Coates conducted the memorial lesson. Jeb Owen discussed the situations facing some on the sick and shut-in list and mentioned the following: Curtis Owen, Edith Owen, Doris Hanks, Chloe Webb, Kristie Powell, Pat Allen, and Cath Tyler. He led 58 in honor of these singers.

Reed Coates read the following names of the deceased: Susan Kerr, Leland Owen, Nellie Rousseau—Texas; John Merritt—Mississippi; Lonnie Rogers—Georgia. He said that his song selection, 30b, described better than he could put in words, the mixtures of joy and sorrow we feel at the death of loved ones. We’re blessed to have the hope of a better day for our loved ones and fellow singers. The memorial lesson was closed by prayer offered by Elder Sonny Huckaby.
