The Brazos River Singing was held at the Washington-on-the-Brazos Texas State Park on Saturday before the first Sunday in April. Gaylon Powell called the class to order at 10:00 a.m. by leading songs on pages 449 and 45t. Richard Goodrum offered the opening prayer.

A business session was held to elect the following officers: Chairman—Tom Owen; Vice Chairman—Leon Ballinger; Secretary—Cissy Moseley.

Tom Owen called the class back together leading song on page 271b. The class broke for lunch with special thanks being extended to Landis Powell, Charlotte Powell, and family for providing a hamburger luncheon for the singers. Gaylon Powell offered the noon prayer.

LUNCH

The afternoon session began with Leon Ballinger leading songs on pages 84 and 137.

Announcements were made. Having several people new to Sacred Harp in attendance, Chairman Tom Owen asked for selections from the class and led 82 by request. He was followed by these requests: Jeb Owen 40; Gaylon Powell 146; Kevin Powell 277; and Cissy Moseley 563.

Other than the leaders, the following singers were present: Mary Ballinger, Linda Henthorn, Cheryl Kitsch, Mike Kitsch, Richard Knight, Sarah Knight, Garry McDonald, Kathy Post, Charlotte Powell, Landis Powell, Jo Powell, Tammy Powell, Lela Wilburn, and still others who were not registered, but gladly welcomed.

The class agreed that next year’s singing will be held in the State Park Conference Center, Saturday, April 5, 2003.

Tom Owen led song on page 69 as the closing song, and Lee Wilburn dismissed the class with prayer.
