The twenty-second annual session of the Smith County Sacred Harp Singing Convention met at the New Harmony Community Center, Smith County, Tyler, Texas on the second Sunday and Saturday before in March.

Myrl Jones, Chairman Pro-tem, called the convention to order by leading song on page 101t. Gaylon Powell offered the opening prayer.

Myrl Jones made the following committee appointments: Memorial Committee—Gaylon Powell, Cheryl Foreman, and Olivia Powell; Nominating Committee—Lawson Smith, Leon Ballinger, and John Morris.

Scott Curran called the class back to order for the afternoon session leading song on page 47t. David Rousseau said a special prayer for Jane McKnight who blacked out and fell during lunch. She was rushed to the hospital by EMS, and later reports came that Jane’s pacemaker was not working properly. Singing resumed after the emergency was over.

Sue Utz gave the Treasurer Report and asked for donations to help meet expenses.

Myrl Jones proposed to the class to change the singing from a two-day singing to a one-day singing due to expenses and small attendance, and suggested that the class should think and pray about the change, and to vote on the decision next year. End of business session.
