355 Anthem on the Savior

Words: The Sacred Harp, 1850

Music: B. F. White, 1850

Meter: Prose

My friends, come listen awhile,
And I will tell you a story
About our loving Savior;
He came of low estate,
Was rejected by His own,
Was born of the Virgin Mary,
And was cradled in a manger.
The next we hear of this blessed Savior,
He was going about doing good;
And teaching people righteousness;
And for this He was condemned to die,
To which He consented,
And in the act of dying gave up the ghost,
And said, It is finished!
Then He was buried,
And the third day,
He rose from the grave,
A triumphant Conqueror,
And ascended to mansions on high,
And is now exalted a Prince and a Savior,
And grants repentance unto men,
Then let us praise Him,
Magnify and adore,
World without end. Amen.
