The annual Decoration Day Sacred Harp singing at Cane Creek Primitive Baptist Church was called to order at 9:30 a.m. by B.M. Smith leading 82t. The opening prayer was offered by Ed Thacker.

Leaders: B.M. Smith 31t; Glenda Collins 101t; Glenda Collins and Bert Collins 45t (in memory of Glenda’s mother, Gladys Simmons, Reba Norton, Gertrude Norton, and Bernice Walker); Donna Bell 448t, 72b; Margie Smith 225t, 317.

A business session was held with the following officers retained: Chairman—B.M. Smith; Vice Chairman—Glenda Collins; Secretary—Donna Bell; Arranging Officer—Margie Smith.

Leaders: B.M. Smith 503 (in honor of Raymond Hamrick); Louise Holland 35, 49b; Ed Thacker 303 (in honor of Jeff Sheppard, S.T. Reed, and Bud Oliver), 47t; Charlene Wallace 49t, 61; Cecil Roberts 63, 477; Margaret Thacker 39b, 489.

RECESS

The class was called back to order by Cecil Roberts leading 56t and 229. Leaders: Lou Cotney 300, 358 (for Faye Cotney); Neal Prichard 566, 204; Evelyn Harris 378t (in honor of Ruth Daniel), 400; Virginia Dyer 155, 32t; Lewis Norton 176t, 340; Sylvia Norton Holland 339, 348b; Kelsey Campbell 268, 159.

Cecil Roberts conducted the memorial lesson. B.M. Smith led 389 in memory of the following deceased: Steve Brown, Robert Norton, Bobby Clay, Sarah Watts, Bessie Austin, Dale Austin, Homer Hulsey, George Holland, Lonnie Rogers, and Nick Griffin.

Ed Thacker led 403 in honor of the following sick and shut-ins: Floy Wilder, Teenie Moody, Carlene Griffin, Jeff Sheppard, Shelbie Sheppard, S.T. Reed, Lessie Reed, Bud Oliver, Sammie Oliver, Lucy Garner, Eugene Forbes, Lois Bowman, Rene Greene, Eunice Webb, Ruth Daniel, and those individuals with the “flesh-eating” bacteria. Elder Neal Prichard closed the memorial lesson with prayer.

Charles Norton gave a brief report on the cemetery fund. The blessing for the noon meal was offered by Cecil Roberts at the table.

LUNCH

The afternoon session opened with B.M. Smith leading 141 and 318. Leaders: Fallon Cook and Cain Cook 146, 100; Louise Owen 405, 143; Ed Thacker 37b; Paula Brooks and Louise Owen 342, 64; B.M. Smith 284 (for Eunice Webb); Ann Simpson 445, 354b; Glenda Collins and Bert Collins 294 (in memory of Glenda’s daddy, Clyde Simmons).

Following announcements, B.M. Smith led 46 as the closing song. Cecil Roberts offered the closing prayer, and the class was dismissed.
