The sing was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by David Lee leading 274t. David Lee and Clarke Lee welcomed everyone and then led the class in singing the scale. David Lee and Clarke Lee led 68b (walked time), and then a morning prayer was offered by Gaylon Powell.

David Lee made a few remarks about the need to honor the many generations of families from this area that have kept this precious tradition alive and have passed it down to us. Roxie Chesser Crawford, 94 years old, Lee Herrin, Elvera Dowling Lee, and Bernice Roddenberry joined David Lee, Clarke Lee, and Laurie Sommers in the square and led “Land of Beulah.” David Lee mentioned Melvin Hickox, Bessie Carter, and others that are no longer with us but who we still remember and honor.

Lee Herrin made a few remarks about the importance of this tradition in her life and encouraged everyone to continue working to maintain this singing heritage through their children and descendants.
