Hillabee Sacred Harp Convention

The one hundred-thirtieth session of the Hillabee Sacred Harp Convention was held at Rocky Mount Primitive Baptist Church in Daviston, Alabama on the third Sunday in July. The class was called to order by Chairman Eugene Forbes leading song on page 32 (t? b?). John Ramsey offered the morning prayer. Nell Estes led the Introductory Lesson with the following songs selected: 39b, 63, and 40.

A business session was held with the following officers elected or appointed to serve: Chairman—Eugene Forbes; Secretary—Jenny Acton; Arranging Committee—Charlotte Bishop.

LUNCH

The afternoon session was called to order by Chairman Eugene Forbes.

A memorial lesson was held. Eugene Forbes led song on page 341 for Frank Story’s brother, Franklin Story, and 438 for Shannon Wilson. John Ramsey led song on page 288 for his father-in-law, Linus “Bud” Hook. Charlotte Bishop led 339 for Elizabeth Rose Acton, daughter of Jenny Acton, who passed away on March 12, 2002. Myra Goss led 380 for Joan Railey. The memorial lesson was closed.

Business Lesson:

  • Union Singings-none reported.
  • Location for this singing next year (2003)-Rocky Mount Primitive Baptist Church, Daviston, Alabama.
  • Singing Schools-One reported from Rocky Mount, July 18-19, 2002. Reported small attendance with good singers.
  • Introductory Lesson to be led by Charlotte Bishop for the 131st session in 2003.
  • Voted to send $50 to the singing school, which will be held on Friday and Saturday before the singing. End of business.
