The Christian Harmomy
The Christian Harmony by William Walker is a seven-shape songbook first published in 1866. It was republished and revised several times by William Walker himself, and then there are several 20th century editions. Any or all of these editions may be found in use at a modern Christian Harmony singing.
The Brown Book: The Christian Harmony. Walker's 1873 Edition written in his own shapenote system was reprinted in 1979 and is used mainly in North Carolina singings. A new reprinting came out in December, 1994. It may be ordered from Ms. Willie Israel, 124 Brucemont Circle, Asheville, NC 28806. The base price is $20 per copy plus shipping charges of $3.00. The Black book: The Christian Harmony, Revised 1958 by John Deason and O. A. Parris, and published by the Christian Harmony Publishing Company in Alabama. It had been retypeset using the Aiken shapenote system and is used primarily in Alabama. It is no longer for sale. The binding of this edition is black.
