The Sacred Harp Musical Heritage Association will hold Camp Fasola for learning Sacred Harp singing, history, and traditions for the sixth consecutive year. Camp Fasola is open to both youth and adults, beginners and experienced singers. Multiple daily sessions will be devoted to teaching Sacred Harp singing, as well as times for recreation, rest, fellowship, and singing. All campers will be expected to perform some area of service during the week.

All meals will be served at the Camp Lee dining hall. Sleeping quarters will be dormitory style bunk beds with separate halls for males and females. Camp fee (includes air-conditioned lodging and meeting rooms, meals, snacks, t-shirts, lessons, and activities) for those participating in all Sacred Harp sessions is $110 for age 29 and under and $220 for age 30 and up. Camp fee for guests not participating in the Sacred Harp activities is $400. Reservations are available on a first come / first served basis with a deposit of $50. We are unable to accommodate campers 6-9 years of age without a parent/guardian who will be responsible for supervising them around the clock. (You should expect that this will require taking housing in a hotel at your expense). Travel to camp is the responsibility of campers. Please note that the Independence Day Singing, usually held at Muscadine Church, will be held at Camp Lee on July 4 starting at 9:00 a.m.

MULTIPLE CAMP SESSIONS

We are holding two separate camp sessions this year in an effort to accommodate all who want to attend.

The first session will begin on Friday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. and will run through Monday, June 30 at 9:00 a.m. This session will be programmed with an emphasis for adults (fewer recreation options, extensive singing elective classes).

The second session will begin on Monday, June 30 at 4:00 p.m. and will run through Friday, July 4 at 9:00 a.m. This session will be programmed with an emphasis for youth and adults under age 30 (full recreation schedule, no/few singing elective classes).

While the two camp sessions are not exclusive for different age groups, the sessions are structured to offer classes and activities that better fit the interests shown by youth and adults in past camps. Session two will have a large majority of its camper slots reserved for youth. We expect that adults who need to accompany their youth would attend the second session. Also, some campers may need to attend a particular session to fit their personal schedules.

LODGING

Camp Lee lodge sleeping accommodations will be divided into separate areas for males and females with dormitory style (up to 20 per room) camp bunk beds and community bathrooms. Camp Lee sleeping quarters are oriented to youth campers, so most adults find the beds “comfort challenging.” All the sleeping and meeting areas are air conditioned. Campers are responsible for providing all your own linens: sheets, pillows, blankets, towels, etc. Some campers elect to stay off-site at local hotels at their own expense (camp fees are not reduced) after evening activities end and return for breakfast in the morning. If you plan to stay off-site, please notify us in advance.

MEALS

Meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be offered buffet-style in the Camp Lee dining hall. A specific vegetarian menu is not provided, but salads and sometimes other vegetables are available.  We will also provide snacks in the mid-morning and mid-afternoon. (If you would like to bring treats such as drinks, cookies, brownies, fruit, chips, or other food for the snack times, we would appreciate it.)

RECREATION

Camp Fasola recreation will include swimming, hiking, canoeing, rock slide (a Camp Lee exclusive), the Camp Lee Lake “zip line,” fishing (bring your own gear), ropes courses, exercise class, crafts, horseshoes, and games. For more information on Camp Lee facilities and activities, see the Camp Lee website at www.camplee.org

LESSONS

We will have a good selection of lessons and electives, so you will have at least three hours of singing school lessons per day plus more singing each night. We will have sessions for all levels of experience from beginners through experienced singers.

COUNSELORS

Counselors will supervise camp activities for youth age 10 to 18. Parents/guardians or grandparents are responsible for accompanying and supervising children ages 6-9 at all times for all activities, meals, classes, and sleeping. We will also have counselors for adults, who will help them with any questions or problems they may have during the week. Campers will be asked to perform some area of service during camp.

OTHER SINGINGS

The Independence Day Singing, usually held at Muscadine Methodist Church, will be held at Camp Lee in the Ark on Friday, July 4th. The singing will begin at 9:00 a.m., and lunch will be available for purchase at the Camp Lee dining hall. There are all-day singings in the area on the weekend after Camp Fasola.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation to Camp Lee is the responsibility of campers. We will try to help connect campers who are flying into the Atlanta or Birmingham airports so that you can try to carpool / arrange rides together.

ARRIVAL

Check-in for the first session will be conducted between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Check-in for the second session will be conducted between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. on Monday. We request that you let us know if you will be arriving later. You will be issued your room assignment, Camp Fasola T-Shirts, and the final camp schedule of events. Our first camp meal will be at 6:00 p.m.
